I recently ventured into my parents’ basement to rediscover this early example of my art/life integration and obsessive tendencies. This refrigerator now holds a few varieties of beer and lives in the basement (and I was made to understand, in no uncertain terms, that this behavior would have to stop when the kitchen was eventually renovated, and a new fridge was brought in); but I did manage to cover the entire front with fruit stickers over a period of a couple of years.

My grandmother recently unearthed this diagram, penned by my grandfather 1969, of the solar system. I found it so delightfully precise, just like his pencil drawings of pin-up girls (one, drawn with a delicate and detailed hand that I can only dream of, hangs framed in my room; I wish I knew her name). And he signed and dated it- something he admonished me to do with everything I drew, no matter how seemingly slight. Now that he’s gone, I understand the importance of those dates.
